Cafe Style Dining Room Reveal

One room down in 2015…only 300 2+ more to go!

In case you you missed the plan and inspiration images you can start here. Some of this has changed because I had to work with a lot of what I already had but I love the way it turned out.

Over the last few months I’ve been reading the book Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist. It digs deep into the meaning of nourishing the ones we love and gathering together around a table to share, laugh, cry, support.

From the beginning I wanted to open this space up and separate it from the kitchen as much as possible. I wanted it to feel comfortable, like you were sitting in the corner of a cafe or coffee shop having an intimate conversation with a close friend. Bright yet cozy.

I knew I had to work with our existing chairs and this round table that I had purchased from the Habitat Store about a year ago. Also, after a lot of thought I decided I really loved the contrast of the chalkboard wall so I decided to keep it but not use it as a chalkboard.

It turned out to be a great back drop for the large abstract art painting by yours truly! There will be a post coming on this soon!

We built the banquette bench seating and cushions and added the large white drum shade from Ikea.

I hung the drum shade with this antique bronze light kit from Home Depot but it wasn’t quite bright enough so it fell victim to my gold spray paint, as did the base of the thrifted table.

We added pillows and vase from HomeGoods and the beautiful faux cowhide rug from Rugs Direct to finish off the space.

One of my favorite elements of the space is the Loloi Rug from Rugs Direct. This is myfirst time using a hide rug because I never thought they quite fit in with my style but I knew I wanted this space to have a bit of a modern edge and on trend style. This one is only a 3’10” x 5′ and it fits our small space perfectly!

I don’t know that I would ever use a real hide, just a personal preference, so this one fit the bill perfectly. I love the colors (it’s pretty impressive how real it looks) and it’s super easy to vacuum which is very important to me as a mom to a 6-year-old boy!

It completely ties it all together for me!

This dining space is only the beginning of the transformation our home will undergo based on the foundations of Bread and Wine. I hope you take a look at the book if you have a minute. It will truly change the way you think about food and the emotions behind feeding the people you love.

I’m so glad to have this room behind me! If feels like the kick start to a great 2015 full of projects that will benefit our family in so many ways!

Have a wonderful week friends and make sure to check back on Thursday for my Week 2 One Room Challenge update! You can read Week 1 here.

Cheers!
