DIY Recipe Box

Good morning friends! It’s my first DIY project of the year and you know it’s all about the organization! We’re still going strong over here in all areas including purging, creating a meal plan and our new family schedule.

As part of the purge I went through our recipes and threw out any that I knew we would never make and pulled out our favorites and ones I wanted to try. I was looking for a cute place to house the recipe cards but this project was actually born out of another purge. When I was going through my craft supplies I found this pretty sliver of a shell that I forgot I had and I knew it would make the perfect ornament on the outside of a box. A recipe box was the perfect storage solution!

recipebox6I found this simple recipe box from Michael’s and I sprayed it with three thin coats of spray paint, lightly sanding with 220 grit sandpaper in between each coat. Once dry I sprayed on one coat of clear enamel to protect this surface.

This might seem like a lot of spraying and sanding for a simple little box but it only takes a couple of minutes for each coat. This helps seal the wood and fill in any uneven areas. The wood on these boxes are thing and brittle but if you take these step it will end up smooth and shiny! I let the clear coat dry for 24 hours and then I glued the shell onto the top front of the box lid.

I’ve been looking for cute dividers and new recipe cards but who would have thought they would be hard to come by. I finally found these cute ones from Etsy so I wanted to share them with you. You can choose your color or order them as a multi-color set. Aren’t they adorable!

What do you think? How do you store your recipes? This is such an easy DIY that you should definitely try!

My little man’s been sick the last couple days but he is on the mend now and I’m ready to get back into routine! Hope your week is treating you well!

Cheers!
