Kitchen Renovation: It’s Go Time

Good morning friends!

It’s the 2nd week in January now, so how do you feel? Are you still excited about all of the new goals and fresh start? I didn’t get everything done that I wanted to in the last two weeks but I’m hanging in there and am excited for what the month holds.

As you might have heard me mention I’m beginning our mini kitchen renovation. And I say mini only because we aren’t replacing cabinets or appliances (although I’d like to) but hopefully everything else will go or be updated. This is a project that I’ve had on my mind for a LONG time now but I’ve never felt I had the resources or time to do. Well, I’m jumping in and going for it! Plus our kitchen is 15 years old now and has never been touched so there is some cleaning, fixing and updating that desperately needs done.

Our budget is incredibly tight and my schedule is already jam packed but I’m carefully planning and researching how to overcome these obstacles and I’m hopeful. I’m going to try not to hold myself to a strict schedule or let it completely stress me out. I will take my time so that I can deliver some detailed posts and tutorials and because I (and a few free laborers) will be doing all of the work.

This is what I see in my head when I think of all of the components:

OB-kitchenreno

Sources: Faucet // Wall Tile // Floor Tile // Hardware // Bar stools // Countertops // Sink // Gray Paint // Neutral Paint // Light Fixture // Window Scene photo  via Studio McGee (loving Drawn Company Shades as the potential shade source for the space)

The plan is to replace the linoleum flooring with tile, paint the lower cabinets and replace the hardware, remove the upper cabinets and tile the wall that the window above the sink is on and add open shelving. We’ll also be replacing the faucet, sink and (hopefully) the countertops to include an extended bar with stools.

I’m crushing on the white subway tiles with a darker grout and I think the gray cabinets will look awesome with the brass and wood touches. Our walls are currently painted Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams, a neutral blue/green/gray color, and I still love it so that will not change for now.

I’ve been drooling over so many inspiration images on Pinterest and here are my top picks. Make sure to stop by and check out my Kitchen Inspiration board.

I’m really excited about this project because honestly I would rather be building and installing rather than crafting most days so I’m excited to fire up the power tools and get my hands dirty!

I’d love for you guys to follow along and I’ll probably ask for your input more than once :) What projects are you tackling this year? Home renovations, organization, etc?

Have a lovely week friends and I’ll be back on Wednesday!

Cheers!

  1. Summer I love the plan you have in mind to update your kitchen. The grey + white subway tile + brass accents + Sea Salt is such a pretty combination! FYI if you do not need a functioning roman shade it’s pretty easy to DIY a faux one with mini blinds….have you ever seen a tutorial for them? I have made a few and they actually do work if you don’t need to raise and lower them very often.

  2. Exciting! We are in the middle of a mini-kitchen reno, too, and went with dark gray cabinets (I’m in love with them). So far we just have the cabinet boxes, walls and trim painted and shades up (we have lots of windows for people to peek in – so we needed that done ASAP). We are doing it relatively slowly as well, so I wanted to make sure that at least the kitchen is usable for now, hence only doing the boxes for now. Next up: the floors, THEN the cabinet doors. Ha! It’s a total pain in the butt and I have yet to share our progress on the blog, but it’ll get there. Can’t wait to see what you do! Good luck!

  3. *gush* I love the contrast between gold hardware and grey cabinetry – it’s so warm. I cannot wait to see what you come up with, I know it will be Pinterest worthy too! :)
