How To Style A Kaftan 3 Ways

Good morning friends! It’s been so hot here lately but no matter how hot it gets I still love summertime, especially hanging out at the pool or in our neighborhood!

I spotted this crazy animal print kaftan at Julie’s Boutique (no longer available but they have the print in a tank) and I had to do a double take. I think I literally said to myself, “Back away, this print is too crazy and didn’t you just tell the world that your were buying only neutrals to add to your capsule wardrobe???”

But…my brain lost out and after about an hour of staring at it in the dressing room (little man would beg to differ on the time) it jumped into my bag. To my defense I did have a $20 gift card AND since I’ll be teaching you how to style a kaftan 3 ways it at least ticked the functionality box of said capsule.

P.S. Don’t let the word kaftan scare you, it’s basically a long, loose top and the same concept can be applied to a tunic. So here is how to wear a kaftan or tunic 3 ways and how to get the look when you’re shopping in store or online…

POOLSIDE

Kaftans are often worn over bathing suits as coverups and typically the sides are slightly longer than the front and back. The sleeves are loose and flowy and sometimes even open.

AROUND TOWN

I think my favorite way to wear it is over skinny jeans and either black or white work in this case. Stacked sandals and a bright purse are the perfect compliment. This Vera Bradley cross body purse is my FAVORITE and I carry it every day!

Look #3

IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

This kaftan is so cute worn as a dress and it’s just long enough for it to work! Make sure you check the wind in your weather forecast though if you know what I mean! I’ve also worn a skinny belt with it which definitely helps on those blustery days!

Also, I have to share these cork wedges with you (don’t mind my busted toes!). They are tall but really comfy and I love the nude color straps! They are by far my favorite pair of the season and are under $35!!!

Okay, what do you think? Would you dare wear a kaftan or tunic this way? Hopefully after you’ve read this you might think a little differently about those long loose tops that you pass by on the rack! They sure do make for a comfortable outfit! And just a tip, you can always throw a cami on underneath if the arm holes are too wide!
