Top 5 Friday: My Favorite Mexican-ish Restaurants In The QC

Happy Cinco de Mayo y’all!!!

Okay, so I know it’s not actually Friday but I thought that saving Top 5 Friday for Cinco de Mayo Saturday would be a perfectly acceptable thing to do! In lieu of this fun (and somewhat irrelevant holiday in the US) I thought I would share my favorite Mexican-ish restaurants in and around the Queen City.

What are you waiting for, let’s dive on in!

1. La Unica

Hands down our favorite local joint in Huntersville but there are three other locations too. Perhaps not the best food in the world (although it is really good) but the atmosphere is awesome, you can get in and out easily and the margaritas are on point! And they also serve breakfast-style Mexican food all day.

2. Sabor

Sabor is quick and affordable and has the biggest and best nacho plate in town. The salsa bar is killer too! There is more than one location but we definitely prefer the Elizabeth restaurant. This place is pretty small so make sure you go a little early to try and beat the crowd. You order at the counter and the food comes out super fast!

3. Azteca

This is family-owned restaurant is off the beaten path a little bit but don’t let that steer you away. It’s extremely authentic from the decor to the menu and the food is amazing! The made-at-your-table guacamole seals the deal.

4. RuRu’s

Best patio in Charlotte period. And they get the award for the most creative menu item names. Definitely get the Fat Guy In A Little Coat taco and the You Talkin To Me margarita. If the weather is right sit under the string lights or pull up a chair at the outdoor bar.

5. Cabo Fish Taco

Cabo is an oldie but goodie and the neighborhood feel is what I love the most. Good vibes only for sure! Hence the name, this is my go-to spot for fish tacos! The have a great side selection too. I love the spicy avocado pasta salad and the Cabo slaw.

So where are you getting your Mexican food fix today? Have you guys been to any of these? I’m always looking for new restaurant suggestions so make sure to drop your favorites in the comments!

Cheers!
