Deck Lighting Decisions

It’s Monday guys! It always feels weird getting back into the groove after being away but I have a ton to do so I’m kind of pumped!

I’d like to talk about my deck lighting for the One Room Challenge. If you read my other posts you know that I had an arts and crafts hanging light on my design board. But after more thought I’ve decided that I want something more casual and a bit more nautical.

Now I’m thinking about a galvanized or vintage looking barn pendant with a shade between 11″ to 14″. We are going to remove the current {ugly} light and move the electrical so we can hang a pendant underneath the awning.

Here are the top four choices that I’ve come up with.

OB-Deck Lighting Board

One // $59.90 // Wayfair ~ I really like the galvanized look of this one and the price is pretty good.

Two // $42.97 // Home Depot ~ This one is the most affordable option but it is aluminum and I’m not sure if I like it as much as the galvanized ones.

Three // $79.90 // Build.com ~ This one is different and looks a bit more nautical but I’m on the fence about the style.

Four // $153.00 // Barn Light Electric ~ Although a little more expensive I like the classic look of these and they come in different color options. I believe there is a similar one that is galvanized but I kind of like the white.

I also found an Ikea pendant that is super affordable at $29.99 but it does not say it is for outdoor use. I haven’t done enough research to see if this would be realistic under the awning but I can envision it painted a cool color.

Does anyone have any experience using an “indoor” light in an outdoor covered area?

I would love to know your thoughts. Do you like the new direction this is going? Which is your favorite pick?

Your input always rocks so feel free to throw those opinions out :)

  1. I like 1, 2 and 3. (Clearly, I’m no help haha!) I’d be a little nervous about using a light outside unless it specifically states outdoor use since moisture can find it’s way into almost anything, covered or not. Can’t wait to see what you choose!
