CURRENT FAVORITE (Hair): Blunt Long Wavy Bob

Good morning friends! This has been a crazy busy week but it’s flying by so fast I can’t believe it’s already Thursday! Oh and how about those Blue Devil (insert red faced emoticon) losing to South Carolina this weekend??? Woot woot, my tourney is made! #GOHEELS!!!

So this is a pretty straight forward post but also a self serving one. Sorry, I’m allowed to do that from time to time, right?

As most of you know I have pretty long hair and have kept it long for some years now. But what I used to do before I was fully satisfied with the length was grow it out long, then I would get so tired of it that I would get it chopped off without as much as a thought. And when I say chopped I mean above my shoulders short. Shortly after these ‘incidents’ I would have deep regret and want my long hair back. After quite a few repeat episodes I finally learned that my hair looks best long and that’s how I feel most comfortable. You can see a few past hair tragedies HERE.

What I haven’t curbed though is my desire and need for change from time to time. I used to get highlights a lot in my younger days but once I became a mom I really didn’t have the time or money for that kind of maintenance. Then I started coloring my hair (all over) the same shade or a shade darker than my natural color just to add a little depth and shine.

The above experiences – both good and bad – all took place in a salon until I decided that I had even less time and money for these types of things. So naturally I found an over-the-counter box color that I liked and could do at home and a Youtube video that taught me how to trim my own hair with layers! Isn’t Youtube the greatest thing on earth? I mean you can really learn how to do anything!

So, fast forward a couple of years and I think I’m finally ready to revisit the salon. Trust me I still don’t have a lot of time or extra money laying around so I’m looking to find a style and color that is easy to maintain and cost effective. Which brings us to our topic today, my current favorite hairstyle: the blunt long wavy bob. Wow, that’s a mouth full!

I think I am comfortable going a few inches shorter and I love the blunt look of this style. I also love the loose waves and the ombre color on some of them. So my questions for you are: 1. Should I go a little shorter? and 2. What do you think about the ombre or bayalage look? I like the idea of bayalage because the color doesn’t go up to your roots like highlights so I’ve got to think that means less visits to the salon. And the cut is pretty simple. I can probably jump on Youtube and figure out how to keep it trimmed on my own, also cutting down on salon visits.

These are a few images of my favorite hair from around the web. I love the bangs on Keira Knightly but and I’m not afraid of trying them but that screams high maintenance to me. I wouldn’t go as short as the cut in the middle but I love the texture. I think the bottom left might be my current favorite!

Alright ladies (and gentlemen) let me hear it! I want ALL the opinions and don’t be shy! I especially would love to hear from those of you who have done the bayalage thing. Love it, hate it?!?!

Even though my hair is really long right now I’m still able to get the wavy look with my favorite curling wand but I’m excited to have a little less weight going in to the spring and summer seasons.

Which style is your favorite?

Oh and if I was blond and not looking for a bit of a change I think I would attempt this look! How gorgeous is this hair?

TGIF (almost)! Cheers!

  1. Mind sharing which over the counter box die you like? I haven’t had a lot of luck with box die so would love to hear what works for you!

    1. Hi Julie! I always use Clairol Natural Instincts (medium cool brown and light brown) and have always been happy with the results. It doesn’t make my hair look brassy/orangy like other dyes have. Hope that helps!
