Fall is my favorite season for creating recipes and I’m excited to share two easy ones with you! The first is a spiced apple cider from our Hogan family cookbook and the second is a super simple (and healthy) potato salad recipe. Let’s jump into some simple decorating tips and these yummy recipes.
Cozy Fall Decorating In The Kitchen
1. Create small vignettes that don’t take up a lot of space.
Nobody wants to take up a lot of valuable counter space with decorations. Try creating a small vignette or two by grouping items together that vary in size and height.
I think the patterned pumpkins are so cute and the one holding the plant is actually an acorn. The top is the acorn cap so you could use it as a planter or as the acorn itself.
2. Pick a neutral color scheme.
Neutral colors keeps my kitchen from feeling cluttered and allows me to re-use my decor year after year. I used grays, whites and a little bit of brown and blue. These are all colors that I love and fit in perfectly with the rest of our home.
3. Use a wreath in a non-traditional location.
I love a huge wreath on the front door but pretty wreaths shouldn’t just be for the neighbors to see. I used a delicate, modern wreath on the outside of our pantry door which means I get to enjoy it all season long.
4. Cute serving pieces.
Cute serving pieces are a must for fall (or any season) and one of my favorite finds is this leaf salad serving set. The rustic bowls and mugs, coasters, napkin rings and placemats help finish off the cozy fall vibe in our kitchen.
5. Cozy candles.
There isn’t much better than a yummy smelling candle burning in the kitchen while you’re cooking up some comfort food and cider! This honey and caramel candle is so delicious.
BONUS: A fun message board or sign is always great for adding a little whimsy in any seasonal decorating. My son and I both agreed that we had to have the Eat, Drink and Be Cozy sign. This is also a great way to utilize any open shelving in the kitchen.
Now that we’ve got the decorating covered, let’s move on to the food, shall we?
Spiced Apple Cider Recipe
Equipment
- Large Pot of Dutch Oven
Ingredients
- 2 quarts Apple Juice
- 6 Cinnamon Sticks
- 10 Cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon Ground Ginger
- 1/4 cup Lemon Juice
- 1/2 cup Orange Juice
Instructions
- This recipe is so easy it really doesn’t need instructions! Simply add all of the ingredients into a pot or dutch oven, bring to a boil, then simmer for about 20-30 minutes or as long as you want.
These mugs are just a cozy as the cider itself. I love the rustic blue with the gold paint swipes.
And up now is the perfect, healthy potato salad recipe to take to your next gathering!
Easy, Healthy Potato Salad
Ingredients
- 8-10 Organic Potatoes
- 1/2 cup Tessemae's Creamy Ranch Dressing
- 1/2 teaspoon Minced Garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon Smoked Paprika (or regular paprika)
- 1 teaspoon Sea Salt (add in slowly to taste)
- 2-3 Green Onions thinly sliced
Instructions
- Boil or cook the potatoes in an Instant Pot. Let them cool, then cut them into 1″ cubes. Add the dressing and seasonings and stir until coated. I like to put mine in a large bowl with a lid and shake it a little to make sure the mixture is spread evenly. Chill in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve. All of the ingredients can be adjusted to your taste.
Notes
Obviously we’re not just eating potato salad for dinner but I wanted to make it pretty for you! :)
Believe it or not, these awesome bar stools are also from At Home. Our other stools were on their last legs and although these will be our year-round stools, I think the gray tweed fabric is perfect for the current season!
So what do you guys think? Easy, peasy….both the decorating and the recipes, right? What is your favorite way to decorate for fall?
