Happy Monday y’all!

Can I just say I’m SO excited to be sharing our deck makeover with you today! Not only because I’m thrilled that it’s actually ready to use but also because I want to show you that you can get this look on a budget.

At Home is one of my favorite home décor stores and I’m grateful for the opportunity to partner with them on this project.  Their outdoor furniture sets are reasonably priced and they have about a million trendy and affordable accessories to choose from. It’s the perfect place for stylish, budget-friendly decorating!

So with out further ado, welcome to our deck…

My dad built this deck for us a little over four years ago so that we could have a nice outdoor space to relax. Aren’t dad’s great?!?! I put a lot of work into decorating it at the time but over the years weather took it’s toll and it was time to spruce things up. The hand-me-down furniture that we had was nice but too big for the space, some of the accessories had weathered beyond repair and we accidentally broke our chiminea. Needless to say, this project was long overdue!

If you want to see the evolution of our deck you can check that out HERE. But before I was able to get to the fun decorating part I had to address the deck itself.

The floor (and rails) needed to be washed and re-stained. The pressure washer ended up taking a lot of the stain off the deck boards leaving them looking like weathered barn wood. Once it was dry, to my surprise, I actually loved the look. The deck feels very beachy and it became the jumping off point for the design and style of furniture we would choose. So I sealed the ‘weathered’ boards as is and re-painted the rails bright white.

With the deck repair complete (woohoo!) I was able to start the fun stuff – DECORATING! During my first trip to At Home I realized there were SO many furniture sets to choose from so I took some pictures to mull over the decision at home. I finally narrowed it down to a modern rattan set and a comfy coastal-looking set. Ultimately I decided that the coastal-set was perfect for the look I was going for and I really couldn’t pass up the chairs that swivel and rock!

I love the grid pattern detail on the packs of the chairs and loveseat.

Our deck would not be complete (nor would my little man be happy) without a wood burning fire pit. Having a fire is just so cozy and inviting but of course S’MORES are the most important thing! If we had our way we would sit in front of the fire every evening, even in the heat of the summer. :)

After the furniture was chosen, I ran back to the store for a few pillows and accessories. I only needed a few things because I did not want to overcrowd our space like it was with our old furniture.

I chose these paisley patterned pillows and the small concrete planter.

I thought this little blue painted rock that says ‘Make Waves’ was the perfect touch to finish off the space. This is the saying that we have hung in our bathroom and there’s just something about it. To me it’s a reminder to be confident, to be bold. Strong like the ocean waves.

We used a few accessories that we already had like the two side tables and outdoor rug. The stump side table was actually a DIY from a few years ago. My son and I literally found the stump and dragged it through our neighborhood in his old wagon. I sanded it, sealed it and painted it. Now it makes a great little table and conversation piece!

Also, I wasn’t sure that I was going to use a rug because I wanted the deck floor to be a focal point but I decided that the rug grounded the space and it looked a lot better with it. Check out the difference below.

I also replaced and refilled the hanging planters above the grill and of course our DIY marquee anchor light is here to stay! Kind of our signature, I wouldn’t you say. :)

So guys, what do you think? All of the furniture and accessories that you see here from At Home cost around $1200. I thought that was an awesome price to get the deck up to speed!

Do you have an At Home store near you and if so do you love it as much as I do? The outdoor selection is awesome but there are SO many other things to rave about that I could go on and on. I love their mirrors and they also have a great art and wall décor section. And kitchen accessories, blankets and pillows, lighting, more furniture…you get the picture, right?!

Raise your hand if you’re ready for a deck party at the Hogan house!!!!

Cheers!

    1. Hi Shairi Allen! The rug is from World Market. I don’t think they have the same pattern right now but it’s the outdoor rugs between $20-$40 that feel almost like plastic. They hold up really well!

  1. Summer,
You did a beautiful job with your new decor! The style is similar to what I am considering. I have swivel-rockers in mind (2) and a bistro size dining table with a rug in a different color scheme for an apt. size patio. Didn’t think I would have space for a loveseat glider. My concern is whether I would have space for these type of chairs for two people with a small table. Your seating area doesn’t look huge. Are you able to tell me how much space I would need to allow without being cramped, or would I need to use like stackable wicker chairs?

  2. Gorgeous. It looks cozy and very stylish. It looks like a wonderful space to spend time relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

    Thanks for sharing.
