Roadtrip Reality: 24 Hours in Mt. Pleasant & Sullivan’s Island
WELCOME to this edition of Roadtrip Reality: 24 Hours in Mt. Pleasant & Sullivan’s Island, SC as part of The Great Southern Road Trip blog hop hosted by the wonderful Heather of a Southern State of Mind blog! If you are joining from Sonya’s blog, At Home With The Barkers, I’m SO glad you’re here and hope you will come back and poke around for a bit!
This is a unique blog hop because instead of home tours we are sharing inspiration from our most loved southern hot spots! So…saddle up and enjoy the trip throughout 20 southern cities!
I was born and raised right outside of Charlotte, NC (Lake Norman) but the NC and SC coasts feel like home to me! My family has spent many summers on the Carolina beaches and as an adult I’ve spent even more time finding and exploring my favorite southern cities! Mt. Pleasant/Charleston/Sullivan’s Island was an easy choice for me when it came to deciding where I wanted to take you!
You can read my most recent travel post where we road tripped through the low country. I’ve also written about Greenville, SC and South Mount State Park, NC. I’ve got quite a few road trips in the works that hopefully include Nashville, TN, Lexington, VA and a possible re-visit to Old Town Alexandria, VA!
This road trip started out as a weekend tournament for my son’s lacrosse team but I spent a day eating and shopping my way through Mt. Pleasant and Sullivan’s Island, SC before the games began! Here is my guide to visiting Mt. Pleasant:

Roadtrip Reality: 24 Hours in Mt. Pleasant & Sullivan’s Island, SC
VINTAGE COFFEE – 219 Simmons St., Charleston, SC
This charming little coffee shop and cafe could not have been cuter! The coffee and treats were great and the atmosphere was perfect! My son loved the mac & cheese!
I love the beach vibe throughout with shiplap walls, surf boards and rustic lighting and floating shelves.
I’m just a little crazy about this gray glass subway tile!!!!!
Gotta love the old timey truck as a functioning jungle gym of sorts! There are string lights strung across the large backyard and tons of seating!
CELADON HOME – 1015 Johnnie Dodds Blvd.
I took a break from sipping and eating to visit a few shops around town. My friend Paige of Paige Winn Photo suggested I stop in at Celadon Home and it didn’t disappoint! The furniture and accessories were gorgeous and they also have a lot of great local products too. The modern coastal style is right up my alley!
ANTIQUE MARKET – 708 Johnnie Dodds Blvd.
I just happened to stumble upon this giant antique mall and it was so refreshing to do a little thrifting. Right now I’m really into vintage decanters and artwork!
Eclectic is one of my other favorite home interiors shops in Mt. Pleasant and if I was heading into Charleston I would definitely make a stop at The Hunt Charleston at Indigo Market!
TACO MAMACITA – 2213-B Middle St., Sullivan’s Island
Sullivan’s Island is just across the bridge from Mt. Pleasant and we have been to Taco Mamacita several times in the past. We love the food and atmosphere and it’s so fun to sit on the patio right along the main street on the island.
The tacos and salsa are fabulous but I go for the Mexican street corn, jalapeno corn slaw and the incredibly refreshing on a hot summer day right off the beach: Michelada! It’s a Mexican beer poured over ice with fresh lime juice and a salted rim! Seriously it’s summertime in a glass!
A few more great food options on Sullivan’s Island are Poe’s Tavern (a Sullivan Island staple), Home Team Barbeque (order the Game Changer, you won’t regret it!) and The Obstinate Daughter (for a nice date night if you’re so lucky!).
BEARDCAT’S – 2063 Middle St., Sullivan’s Island
We LOVE BeardCat’s! The gelato is to die for and the decor is on point! My son is an adventurous eater to say the least and he ordered the carrot cake gelato and we were in awe over how good it was! Who would have thought??
They also serve breakfast and lunch and have an espresso machine for coffee drinks!
Why is it so fun to steal ice cream bites from the tiny humans?
Topped off with gorgeous window boxes full of flowers of course!
The AMERICANO – 819 Coleman Blvd.
I have been dying to try The AMERICANO since I first saw it a year or so ago and it was everything I thought it would be! It has a fun outdoor space with lots of games and a posh bar. The inside feels like a modern diner.
We went for happy hour and it was perfect! The empanadas, tacos and calamari were equally amazing and the mojitos, mules and palomas were all $5! The Sweatman’s herbal ginger beer they use in the mules is delish!
Shem Creek is another family favorite but we ran out of time :( I wanted to try Tavern & Table because I’ve heard it’s all the rage…I guess we’ll have to return soon!
