Easy DIY Fall Pumpkin Centerpiece
The fall season is finally here and I’ve got a simple and beautiful DIY project for you! This easy DIY Fall Pumpkin Centerpiece is the perfect addition to any fall or Thanksgiving table. The white pumpkin and fresh flowers are a great way to welcome guests to the table. This unique take on a floral centerpiece will be a conversation starter for sure.
For this gorgeous fall centerpiece, I used a real pumpkin and real flowers. You can use a faux pumpkin with faux florals too! If you are looking for artificial flowers Amazon is a great resource, but you can also find them at stores like Hobby Lobby, Michael’s or even the dollar store.
Tools Needed:
- One fresh or faux pumpkin (I used a medium-sized pumpkin)
- Bunch of fresh or faux flowers (I like to get mine at Trader Joe’s or our local farmer’s market)
- Floral foam
- Sharp knife
- Large spoon or pumpkin scraper
- Cutting board or newspaper (for putting under the pumpkin when carving)
Here are the 5 easy steps:
- Pick out a bunch of fall blooms from your grocery store or farmer’s market
- Purchase a pumpkin of your choice (I love the white heirloom pumpkins this year)
- Using a sharp knife, cut a hole in the top of your pumpkin and scoop out the inside of the pumpkin just like you are carving it for Halloween
- Cut your floral foam to fit inside the pumpkin and soak it in cold water until its saturated. Place the foam inside the pumpkin and add a few inches of water so the foam stays moist.
- Cut and place the stems of your flowers into the foam one by one in any arrangement
Cut off the top off of your pumpkin. Next, scoop out the seeds until you have a hollow pumpkin and discard the insides.
With your knife, cut the floral foam to size to fit inside the pumpkin. Soak the foam in water and also add a few inches of water inside the pumpkin in order for the foam to stay moist if you are using fresh flowers.
I used these floral foam blocks from Amazon.

For the floral arrangement, place each stem into the floral foam one by one until you have the look you want.
Variations:
- Create different color schemes with your flower choices. For example, if you don’t want to use traditional fall colors you could use white, green and brown for a more neutral palette. Check out this white and blue fall pumpkin I made!
- Use different sized pumpkins. Go big if you have a large dining room table or go smaller for a breakfast nook or banquette.
- Choose a different color pumpkin. There are so many color varieties of pumpkins so pick the color that best fits your decor.
- Want to go wild? Ditch the pumpkin and try the project with a uniquely shaped. ghourd!
This beautiful DIY pumpkin centerpiece will be the focal point for your next fall dinner party or Thanksgiving dinner. This easy diy project is so much fun to make and it would also be a great idea for an afternoon project with your kids. You can use different colors for your fall flowers and get as creative as you want to create your pumpkin arrangement.
These centerpieces are great for a fall wedding too! Several years ago we helped a friend save money on their wedding and created about 20 centerpieces using fresh pumpkins and fall flower arrangements. They turned out beautifully and were a great addition to the dining tables at the wedding reception.
